The below is an old posting from you on the SuSE e-list. Did you find a satisfying solution for this or should we start this issue from the beginnig?? :-))
No, never got a solution, nor have I heard from anyone saying that it works for them. If someone out there actually is able to make avis with sound from your Hauppauge WinTV card, could you please post here and share what you did (if anything) to get it working, even if it is with some other application besides KWinTV? I can tell you on several different Linux distros and several different computers, it has never worked for me. Two ideas that frequently are suggested are making sure line-in is unmuted and turning up the igain slider on the mixer. However, those were not the problem in my case. And remember, this is on several different computers and different distros. The original post is below:

When I save avi files from KWinTV, the sound is not saved. I get a silent video avi. I select the option to "Capture avi video + audio" in KWinTV and "record" is clicked on the line-in of KMix. Still no sound. Sound is completely working on all other aspects of this system. I can record wavs from line-in if connecting a portable tape player, for example. Yet if I try to record an avi from KWinTV all I get is silent video.
The sound card is a Creative PCI 512, and I have the same problem when using a Creative PCI 128.

I use an old Haupage card, and I have no problems with the sound. However, you have to connect the TV card with the sound card through a cable on the back of your computer. Unfortunately ..... Cheers, Niels

The line out of the tuner card is connected to the line in of the sound card. Watching TV has sound. Only recorded video clips are silent. *************************************************** Powered by SuSE Linux 8.0 Professional KDE 3.0.0 KMail 1.4 This is a Microsoft-free computer Bryan S.
