I love SuSe but if there is one thing in particular that lets it down its the lack of rpms available for it on the web. Its Linuks service is pretty good but not comprehensive enough. I am trying to locate qtella and xine packages for 7.3 that work. Is it possible to request packages for inclusion in Linuks? I'm sure a lot of users would appreciate a gnutella client and DVD player

Xine packages especially made for SuSE are available.

The main problem re: DVDs is that by law in the United States and several other countries it is illegal to have unauthorized software that decodes DVDs. This perhaps explains SuSE not updating it since later versions can do this; though they *could*, if they want to be less cautious, include everything but the DVD decoding plugins... (But then it would be pretty worthless still, as nearly all DVD movies are encrypted...) I doubt they will do this now though; they are in a lot of stupid legal hot water as is. (They are in trouble because the name of the program "krayon" is like "crayon", and were forced by court order to not distribute SuSE in their home country of Germany until the case is resolved; which will cost SuSE a lot of money. :-( )

Update, after being offered a settlement, SuSE is no longer barred from distributing Linux in Germany! I hope that the settlement is not too expensive.

As I read it, SuSE got in touch with Crayon, who said "what attack dogs? what lawsuit?" and indicated quite clearly that they had no intent to pursue a case against SuSE. Crayon agreed to relinquish all rights to prosecute and it was agreed that SuSE wasn't liable for licence fees. (I don't know if SuSE had to pay a one-off settlement fee; I hope not, since it really was a storm in a teacup.)

Now, if only they disbarred lawyers for creating spurious lawsuits... Gideon.
