I am setting up a new PC based on an AMD Athlon 64 bit cpu, the installation is from a magazine dvd but unfortunately it did not appear to have the 64 bit kernel and so I installed the software OK and discovered that it had installed the 32 bit version. I have limited experience with kernels and would like to update the kernel to 64 bit, is there a simple way to do this? I tried downloading an rpm for the kernel and Kpackage would not install it, saying it required 64 bit hardware (?). Is there a command like that will remove the old 32bit kernel and install the 64 bit one? Or do I need to install a full 64 bit system from another dvd? Thanks for any advice, John __________ This email has been delivered safely via the services of Internode.

Or do I need to install a full 64 bit system from another dvd? It is not just the kernel. You need a complete set of 32-bit AND 64-bit

Hi Jerry,

Or do I need to install a full 64 bit system from another dvd? It is not just the kernel. You need a complete set of 32-bit AND 64-bit libraries. The reason for this is that 32-bit applications have absolutely no knowledge of a 64-bit environment.
Thanks for the confirmation, after I posted the message I realised that the libraries were different and have been attempting to get a full 64 bit dvd. I have had some problems downloading so if I have no luck I will buy a disk on Monday and place an order for the Novell boxed set of 10.1. Thanks, John
