[opensuse] Behavior of Widgets in a Panel
I've made a second Panel, at the top of my screen (oS 11.3, KDE 4.4), to use for housing widgets. This Panel is nearly as long as the screen is wide, just so it doesn't interfere with the "cashew", and its minimum length is just short of its maximum length. Getting the first few widgets onto this panel is very easy, and the icons are comfotably just adjacent to their neighbors. Then something happens, and succeeding widgets just pile on each other, making them all unusable. The two thirds of the panel to the right of this pileup are vacent, and I have not found a way to move anything into them. I have been able to delete the pileup, leaving the rightmost widget the "LCD Weather Station", but the Weather Station resists being removed, even when widgets are unlocked. Clicking on it with Mouse Button 2 (sorry, I am left-handed) does nothing. I would cheerfully give up this particular widget it is responsible for this behavior. Stan, I don't have a solution for you, other than to point out that there have been quite a few bug fixes since KDE 4.4. Perhaps you might want to consider updating to a newer version. For what it is worth, I tried what you described and I was able to add a panel to the top of the screen and fill it up with widgets without a problem. This was in 11.3 but KDE 4.5.5. I did that last night, by repeating the exercise on another machine that is running v11.4, and the behavior did not occur. The machine running v11.3 will also be upgraded to 11.4 next month, and I can do without the widgets in the meanwhile, so the problem has disappeared.

I didn't know that, but I think the upper right corner is about as out- of-the-way as it can be. And I don't see that the cashew can do anything that can't be done without it.
