I don't know how I did it, but I obviously did. My RPM database is gone.
Is there a way to semi-painlessly rebuild it by scanning binary directories er sump'n?

Is that to say that it is so far gone that `rpm --rebuilddb' won't produce >any results?
Have a look in /var/adm/backup/rpmdb/ there should be a gzipped copy of the database. Tim -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

This happened to me after I tried to "Update" my Suse6.3 distro with the Suse6.3 Update files. I think updating the base system while it was running may have done it, or perhaps there is a bug in Yast-1.03-5 Anyway, I couldn't find the backups, either, so I had to reinstall the whole system. Needless to say, I have not tried again to update Yast or the base system, and everything is OK. What is it they say -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it? -- Never trust a man in a suit -- cll -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Thanks, but it's completely gone. Nothin' nowhere. I was script writing one day to do some directory cleanup and probably got careless. Unfortunately, I didn't notice the missing rpm database until after I had overwritten the backup. It's a production machine so I can't re-install. Guess I'll just have ta grin an get lucky. -- Brad Shelton On Line Exchange http://online-isp.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
