Updating Packages On x86_64
I want to update audacity to the latest version which the website says fixes several bugs (hopefully including the one where when I start the program it returns an error dialogue e.g. "You will not be able to play or record sounds." :-/ ) So I went to Packman's site which has the latest version available for "SuSE 9.1". But I hesitated because I have the 64 bit ported version running and the Packman package specifically mentions "i586" in the package name. I know it should work fine because of backwards compatibility, but what I want to know is are there any concerns or drawbacks to consider? I'm also wondering about James Ogley's announcement this morning of his new ULB Gnome packages for 9.1. Should someone hesitate before intstalling this on an x86_64 box? Any ideas would be appreciated. -- Bryce Hardy (Santa Rosa, CA USA) cygnia@sonic.net

I've tried not to mix apps that have dependencies. I usually find out where the binaries are located, e.g /usr, use ./configure --prefix=/usr; make;checkinstall, then rpm -Uvh xxxxx.rpm. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer Linux Only Shop.
