They finally got high speed internet to my area and I will be switching to it next week. I am running a dual boot XP and SuSe 9.1. Is there a best choice for a network card or will any do? Thanks Mike

My personal favorite Nics and I'm going to safely assume, Standard PCI 10/100 nics? They are: Linksys Dlink Intel SMC Belkin Which are all very well supported Nics under Linux. If you need to know more. Here's a link: http://cdb.suse.de/?LANG=en_UK http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO JD

Does your hardware not include on-board Ethernet? I thought everything made in the past5+ years did. Assuming it does, I'd go with that. At least until it proves itself problematic for some reason.
Thanks Mike

My onboard Via Rhine would not work with the 2.6.8 kernel (the one I got via YOU applied to 9.1) -- no diagnostics but no traffic either -- nothing pingable. Reverting to the older kernel solved that problem. As I said in a different post, my experience is that 2.6.8 loses big time -- not just on that but on other issues as well. Paul
