Re: [opensuse] Wooo is me...Compiz!
Opensuse 11 x86 64 kde 4.1.1 and i updated to the latest compiz lastnight using yast->update all newer packages. Now, there is no windows decorations and Configure Desktop -> Advanced -> Session Manager -> Window Manager -> Compiz does not exist. Not able to run simple-ccsm as the keyboard does not work in terminal. There has to be a simpler way for compiz to update. Everytime i update, compiz breaks! Anyone know how to get compiz working again?
What do you all say about there not being a "window manager" option in Configure Desktop -> Advanced -> Session Manager -> Window Manager -> Compiz See attachment for screenshot.
It's the same for me, but I can choose a Windows Manager (that do not
works too)....

Please use X11:Compiz repo If it still does not work after an update and making sure all the packages are of matching version, disable compiz (ps ax | grep compiz to confirm that compiz is dead), as user, rm -rf ~/.config/compiz* to reset all settings. I downgraded to 0.7.4 from oss repo and all is working. So i do believe something is seriously wrong with the 0.7.8 version of compiz, at least on my x86 64 11 install. Oh and if the Enable/Disable section of http://en.opensuse.org/Compiz_fusion is not applicable to kde4 users, please update that link to refelect it so. The reason i say that, is b/c there is no window manager in there any longer so it should not be on the page.

Let's break the process down to avoid any problems caused by update process: #as root init 3 #log in as root in runlevel 3 #add X11:Compiz repo zypper ar http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.0/ X11:Compiz #refresh the repo zypper ref X11:Compiz #Update all packages from that repo zypper up -t package -r X11:Compiz #remove old configurations rm -rf /home/yourusername/.config/compiz #if you have self compiled plugins rm -rf /home/yourusername/.compiz #switch to runlevel 5 init 5 log in as user #enable effects Run simple-ccsm and enable effects from there. Now if this does not work Add brand new user, log in to that account and enable effects. J, I'll jump in here as well. I have done everything you said, and I have 0.7.8 running, however, I can confirm there is no way to make the emerald themes work. I've already followed this instructions. I have all this packages from X11:Compiz installed: compiz-0.7.8-2.1 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-emerald-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-emerald-themes-0.6.0-16.1 compiz-fusion-kde-0.6.2-3.4 compiz-fusion-plugins-extra-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-fusion-plugins-main-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-kde-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-kde4-0.7.8-2.1 compiz-manager-0.0.1_git080201-49.1 libcompizconfig-0.7.8-2.1 libcompizconfig-backend-kconfig-0.7.8-2.1 python-compizconfig-0.7.8-2.1 But for now, I will try what You wrote in the last message. Thanks for your help!

But for now, I will try what You wrote in the last message.
From the log you sent:
"/usr/bin/compiz (core) - Error: dlsym: /usr/lib64/libdmx.so: undefined symbol: getCompPluginInfo20070830" Could you try compiz-manager --replace after disabling "dmx" plugin from ccsm? Also try the same thing on newly created test user. Ciao -J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
It's weird, There's nothing pointing to "dmx" in ccsm.
Any other hint?
