Kmail bombs -- on this very list!
I've been trying to get rid of unwanted messages from this list in Kmail -- and at a certain point, it simply bombs out. When I try to delete these messages, Kmail simply terminates with no error messages or anything else that would indicate the nature of the difficulty. The messages I'm trying to delete are from Sid Boyce at 4:37 and 5:23 today and from Sean Rima at 4:49 today (Jan. 27). I've tried compacting the newsgroup file, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions on how to unstick Kmail? Paul

All are normal emails. The one from Sean has a valid PKCS signature, which you can verify with mozilla, for example.

Not yet... I think it must be something local to your system. Is it a mbox? Perhaps delete the indexes files. Call kmail from an xterm, perhaps you'll get an error message. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

When I was running SusE Pro 9.0 and had upgraded some KDE components, including KMail, via the supplementary installation sources, I found that some signed mail would cause KMail to bomb. Every time I tried to view such a message, the same thing would happen. I could go into the mailbox and manually (and carefully) strip out the mime segment that held the signature and then KMail could handle it. What I ended up doing was creating a separate filter just to shut aside signed messages to a separate mailbox so at least they would not serve as land mines as I viewed my mail. The problem was magically eradicated when I installed SuSE Pro 9.1.

Yeah, I'm running 9.0 on this particular machine, as it happens. Sounds like I hit the same bug that you did. I finally (painfully) solved the problem by copying all my SLE messages except for the troublesome ones to a new folder, then deleting the carcass folder containing just the bad ones, then changing the properties of the new folder to be just like the old SLE folder and renaming it appropriately. Kind of reminds me of the scene in the Air Force One movie where everyone except the bad guys gets off the plane and the plane then glides into the sea. Paul

Maybe KMail doesn't like their comments. ;-)

About 18 months ago there was something similar, and it turned out that a couple of messages had incorrect headers - somehow they were using headers belonging to another email. I'm sorry I can't be more specific - I don't seem to have kept copies of the emails. Perhaps you could do a search on the list. -- Pob hwyl / Best wishes Kevin Donnelly www.kyfieithu.co.uk - Meddalwedd Rhydd yn Gymraeg www.cymrux.org.uk - Linux Cymraeg ar un CD!
