RE: [SLE] workaround for usb mouse problem in 8.0
I tried this,(INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs" "usbcore usb-uhci") it came up with unknown command usbcore, so tried INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs" "usbcore usb-uhci", came up with the same, but then said loading module usb-ushci. Done the mk_initrd and the lilo, then when I rebooted, it came up with kernel panic and halted. No luck yet getting it fixed, so guess I'll have to reinstall. The mouse works fine during the installation but afterwards is dead in X. The problem is a bug in the hotplug script which is being fixed now but as a workaround putting usbcore and usb-uhci into the initrd solves the problem. In /etc/sysconfig/kernel add "usbcore usb-uhci" to the INITRD_MODULES variable, run /sbin/mk_initrd and /sbin/lilo . -- -ckm -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com

Boot from CD (selection boot installed system), edit the file in sysconfig to INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs usbcore usb-uhci" run km_initrd run /sbin/lilo reboot normally Anders
Thanks Anders Somewhere Lilo got deleted from MBR, so had to start manual install from DVD, then could boot installed system. This fixed the keyboard, had to run SAX2 again and select the USB mouse. 7.3 I had the USB mouse running in addition to the synaptics pad, but that now does not work with USB mouse. Can you attach both the mouse and what-ever-the-hell a synaptics pad is to your computer directly? Bypassing any USB hubs that maybe attached. Fixed my mouse issue by plugging directly into the USB port on the computer fixed the issue in my case. The synaptics pad (mouse pad) is built into the system, it is a Dell Inspiron 8100.
