RE: [SLE] SuSE 8, Nvidia and limited resolution
I have the exact same problem: I had it in 7.3, and now with a clean install of 8.0. After getting all the updates via YOU, I ran Sax2. I could pick 1600x1200, but when I started the X server to test it, the highest res was 1280x1024. Sax2 decided to totally lock up the machine (had to do a hard reset) at this point so I've quit messing w/ it for now. BTW, my card is a GeForce2 MX 400 (AGP) If I figure something out, I'll be sure to pass it on! I've made sure the monitor freq settings are correct for my monitor, but no luck. Anyone had similar problems? Solution? Ideas? With someone else's help from the list, I figured this out. To fix this I: - made sure "1600x1200" was in the Section "Screen"->Sub Section "Display"->Modes - deleted the Section "Monitor"->UseModes line from /etc/X11/XF86Config Note, only do the above if you have a newish monitor. Basically X won't tell the monitor what settings to use and so your monitor has to cope with it. The only thing that doesn't work for me now is 3D support, even though I have the Load "glx" in modules. Jamie On Mon, 29 Apr 2002 Cleary_Mike@emc.com wrote:

Do you have the nvidia drivers installed? The ones from their web site, that is. NVIDIA_kernel and NVIDIA_GLX. Also check how /usr/lib/libGL.so and /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 are symlinked. /usr/lib/libGL.so should point to /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 and /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 should point to /usr/lib/GL/libGL.so.<version>.nv_glx <version> is currently 1.0.2880 Anders

Yes I've got the latest version using YOU. I checked and it's the same as downloading from nvidia direct. Thanks for the symlinks, my /usr/lib/libGL.so was linked to GL/libGL.so.1.3.mesasoft so I corrected it. However, running any of the games like tuxracer still reports "3D hardware support not available: No 3D graphics card available or 3D support not configured yet." Any ideas? Do you get the nvidia logo when you start X? What does glxinfo say? Do you have mesaglu installed? Anders

OK, that looks good.
And the following is installed:

Not if all symlinks point to the correct files, and you said they did. Can you run any 3D programs (like gears, for example)? If you do "ldd /usr/bin/tuxracer", what do you get? Anders

Also check that you have libGLcore.so.1 linked to /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.xx.nv_glx (not exactly sure about the end of that filename since I'm not on the right system to doublecheck, but you'll see the file in /usr/lib. You should have only one libGLcore.xxxxxx and it's probably linked to mesa's libGLcore. John Scott
