[opensuse] Epson Inkjet Printer can't connect
Re: Tumbleweed: I have an Epson WP-4530 all-in-one printer/copier/scanner. The Driver is available in /usr/etcetera, and Yast claims to have installed it, and if I try to print something, the Epson is shown as a choice, but nothing happens. If I try to use XSane, a message tells me it can't find a device. Meanwhile, an HP LaserJet Pro is found and prints perfectly. But it can't scan or print in color. I've gotten used to Tumbleweed and I like it, but why won't it print? All help appreciated! --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, the first step is to examine the printer logs. /var/log/cups/. Possibly "error_log". Then increase log verbosity in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, LogLevel debug restart service, print again, check log again.

Have you configured it in YaST?

If it is something specific to TW, I can't help, sorry. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Here's a portion of a long repetitive log list: localhost - root [30/Jun/2019:15:42:23 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 186 Renew-Subscription successful-ok localhost - - [30/Jun/2019:16:09:33 -0400] "POST /printers/EpsonWP4530 HTTP/1.1" 200 331 Create-Job successful-ok localhost - - [30/Jun/2019:16:09:33 -0400] "POST /printers/EpsonWP4530 HTTP/1.1" 200 9579 Send-Document successful-ok localhost - - [30/Jun/2019:16:21:10 -0400] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 183 Renew-Subscription successful-ok I don't know what it means.
Possibly "error_log". Then increase log verbosity in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf,
LogLevel debug
I could not make this work. I just get an error message when I try to get to this directory and run LogLevel debug.
restart service, print again, check log again.
If I try to use XSane, a message tells me it can't find a device.
Have you configured it in YaST?
I did not. I will try. I know it sees the printer--it can tell me which ink levels are low!
Thanx for your advice. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

do not "run" "LogLevel debug", edit /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and change the "LogLevel" to indicate debug, then restart the service and try to print and look at the logs.
restart service, print again, check log again.

OK, I did the edit, and I got a page of stuff. Don't know just what it means. I couldn't paste it here, since I don't know how to make Thunderbird permit long lines, so I attached the file. --doug

If all else fails, you might try VueScan https://www.hamrick.com It's not exactly cheap, but if it's a choice between paying for the software and not having a scanner, then... It has a free trial so you can try before you buy. Payam. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
