I've searched high and low on Google, and can find tons of pages about how to kill off nepomuk.
But, I actually want to make it WORK. (I know, crazy, right?)
I have a mountain of code that I want to wade thru, and having something that would help me find all references to specific data names, or subroutines throughout the code base would be great.
So its running on the machine, it indexed a boatload of stuff, I selected the directory structures I wanted indexed, and let it do its thing. The Places portion of Dolphin shows me a list of types, one of which is Documents and all the source code modules show up in there.
But I STILL can't find file names or variable names (data elements) in this source code. At least it won't find any such thing in Dolphin's built in Search.
Is there a some other tool I need to use for this?
I use kfind to find text parts. It works great and is quite fast without any indexing... It just gives a list of files that contain what I searched for. Don't know if that's what you're looking for...
Daniel
Kfind has no choice but to start thrashing through every file on your disk till it finds the text. Each search takes a long time because it takes a long time to dig through thousands of files.
Wait, I was wrong... Kfind has a check box that tells it to "Use File Index" When that is checked Kfind appears to acutally use the index created by Nepomuck/Strigi and can find almost any single word finishes in about 20 seconds with virtually no IO. The documentation says that checkbox uses the "Locate" (find utils) database which should only help finding the files to check, but not the actual contents being searched for. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
This thread prompted me to try nepomuk again. But BIG FAIL. One the one hand $ nepomukindexer /home/anton/Documents/ nepomukindexer(12263)/nepomuk (strigi service): SimpleIndexError: "The name org.kde.nepomuk.DataManagement was not provided by any .service files" nepomukindexer(12263)/nepomuk (strigi service): "The name org.kde.nepomuk.DataManagement was not provided by any .service files" The name org.kde.nepomuk.DataManagement was not provided by any .service files and when I run systemsettings -> desktop search I get The Nepomuk installation is not complete. No desktop search setting can be provided. So I do a complete reinstall of all the nepomuk/strigi stuff. Still the same. Hmmm, very strange. For me it just worked once I went to system settings and enabled the nepomuk Server configuration, click apply, watch the disk get busy, and walk away from the machine for 20 minutes. Getting the indexer to run was the least of my problems, and I didn't do any of that at the command line. I would assume that any mention the installation is not complete would mean exactly that, and looking in yast for packages that might be needed would probably be where I would start. Getting something to actually use Nepomuk proved a bit trickier. Once Jan figured out you had to step into a directory that is actually indexed to get it to work, I gota say its damned fast. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, I've been though that. A few packages are giving me repository hell asking for 4.10.4 but they might note even be relevant. -- How long did the whining go on when KDE2 went on KDE3? Which packages are asking for 4.10.4? Mine are all out of 4.10.2 which is (still) the standard on 12.3. None of them ask for anything else. That's not even on my system, no clue what that is, but then I run 12.3 instead of 12.2. Nothing provides, nothing requires.

Still the same. Check that you have virtuoso-server, virtuoso-drivers and nepomuk-core installed. Also, how did you installed it? All of those packages should be already available on a clean installation
