[opensuse] Scanner Replacement
Hi, my scanner died this morning after 14 years of service. I am in the middle of a scanning job and need to replace it, so I am asking if the members of the list have recommendations for a replacement scanner that will work with linux. One other caveat is that not only do I need to be able to scan regular 8 1/2 x 11 pieces of paper, but I also need to be able to scan 35 mm slides to be able to capture the pictures that they contain. depends on particular model. You need one with backlight and adapter. It will mention on the box or ??web. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Search amazon.com for 35mm scanner. I got several hits. Then check for compatibility in yast. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, these 35 mm slides are a "problem". I bougth a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 that works well with current sane-backends. However, there is no film holder. The 600F has got one but, like the 500F, it is not support by sane, yet. Nonetheless, many Epson scanners are supported by the epkowa backend plus non-free interpreter: http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-external.html E.g., "With a built-in 35mm Transparency Unit, the Epson Perfection V330 Photo accommodates mounted slides, negatives and film strips." However, I do not own a Epson scanner.
