[opensuse] How to connect Firefox 3 beta to existing plugins
I have downloaded and "installed" firefox beta 3 to my /home/kai/apps/firefox folder. I have icons set to launch it from there. Now, I want to enable my existing java/flash plugins. I am assuming I'd need to create some sort of symbolic link. I've googled and am not quite sure what to do (my only reference is someone who did this with ubuntu using apt). -- kai www.filesite.org || www.4thedadz.com || www.perfectreign.com remember - a turn signal is a statement, not a request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Your Firefox process needs this variable set. So type that and start your Firefox from within the same console. It should find the plugins Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Haha cute - In any case, you have 2 other options on the plugins. I did it the old school way: cd /usr/local/firefox ln -s /usr/lib/browser-plugins/* or, you could just use the firefox package from build service and let the system handle the details. Well yeah, you have to change "/usr/local/firefox" to the path where your firefox beta lives. But what failed exactly? error message? no such file or directory? permission denied? inquiring minds want to know...

to try very last firefox (or any mozilla product), simply dl the nightly build, it doesn't have to be installed only unpacked in any (for me my user Document) folder. enough to copy any plugin from ild version to new... some plugins (java...) use links, others have to be installed, usually I rename the old install firefox.old and the new firefox so all the previous links works jdd -- Jean-Daniel Dodin Président du CULTe www.culte.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

If you want to do it permanently, add export MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib/browser-plugins to ~/.bashrc for your user only or to /etc/bashrc.local (create it if it doesn't exist) if you want it for all users. Then either wait until the next time you log in or shutdown your KDE session and log in again. Now this is visible for all started processes, i.e. you can get rid of the extra script. In your home directory in the /.mozilla sub-dir there is plugins directory.
