How do you take an mp3 gotten for instance from napster (via knapster) and convert it to a format that you can write to a cd (via xcdroast) that can be played back on your stereo??? -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

I convert them to .wav files by using the xmms diskwriter plugin. It comes as a standard part of the SuSE xmms package. Just place all the mp3s that you want on a cd in the playlist. Go to "options" and then "preferences". Towards the bottom, you will see the "output plugin" area. Just select Disk Writer. Click "ok", and then hit play. You will not hear any sound, and it will seem to play at an accelerrated rate. When it finishes, you will have a bunch of .wav files on your harddrive. Use these to burn a CD. Ok, I have "the other" question... actually, I am looking more for a recommendation. I want to transform some of my music CD's files into MP3, which application would you recommend? I have looked into Kde's ones... You can use *Krabber* if you can manage to get together all of the patches needed to get it to work like it should, not a trivial thing to do when many of the MP3 decoders have suddenly vanished from the dowload sites. HÖ "Alvaro A. Novo" wrote:

I'm using cdparanoia to read CD and bladeenc to encode wav into mp3. Works pretty well, though I am not sure of bladeenc availability. Kastus

Thgis will take you to the sourcecode for bladeenc. Unforunately, Tord's another victim of the big music biz vs. hackers. http://bladeenc.mp3.no/ Hope this helps...
