Greetings I have had a rough time, Surely there is a site with addon packages for suse, like mixxx, celestia, gkrellm, themes, skins, kjofol skins, xmms skins and plugins, xine/mplayer skins and plugins etc I don't want to have to download rpms one by one and fight dependencies, I know how to install rpms, I have passed that point in my life, I would rather spend the time using the programs now.So I would rather add a repository to YOU, and let that download and install stuff for me. Since I was a fedora/Debian freak and apt is too much dependency battling to install. I would like to know what repos are out there. google just returns threads from this list and some others. You guys must have repos that you are using. Whats the big secret here, come on guys share them. Some of those things are bundled with current releases of the SuSE distribution--at least the 9.1 Professional variant, the only one with which I'm familiar.

First of all, YOU is for updates released by SuSE. There are mirrors for YOU releases, but it's not really a generic package update system--it's specifically for patching existing installations created by a SuSE distribution. YaST's Install and Remove module is likewise not entirely generic, in that it requires package repositories in a specific format. Check the recent archives of this list for discussions about Red Carpet and apt for package managers that are more generic (and, many would contend, superior in function and usability to the SuSE-supplied counterparts).

Use the Linux-specific Google search at http://www.google.com/linux/. My favorite places to find RPMs are http://rpm.pbone.net/ and http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ / http://rpmfind.net/.

Probaby no one big secret, but a bunch of tips and techniques, from which you'll soon come up with your own favorite approach.

What do you mean - you can't get apt installed because of unresolved dependencies, or it doesn't resolve them for you? It certainly does the latter as well as any other installer and, as far as installation is concerned, you just need to install apt, apt-libs and lua from http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/SuSE/9.1-i386/RPMS.suser-rbos/
Have a look at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ for all the info you'll need about apt. The dependenciy issue is a function of rpm, not the add-on tool used. There's been a lot of discussion here recently, some of it still ongoing, about various installers, so have a look through the list archives. David
Have you installed SuSE personal? If so, go to Yast -> change installation source and create a new one that points to a SuSE mirror. Now you get access to lot's more than is in the normal personal (in fact, I think you get everything) and can use Yast to install everything Personally I prefer to use red-carpet but that's another story.
