I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.0 on an IBM Netfinity Server. I have since then experienced several lock ups on a previously reliable system (OpenSUSE 10.3 installed). Has anyone else experienced this? As it is, it's not a usable system, having experienced a few lock ups in about 2 hours. tnx jk -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Do you use reiserfs? Something similar happens to me too, so I downgraded to the opensuse 10.3 kernel. There's a bug report that may refer to this here: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=378095 . I am running Reiser, but the problem does not occur at shutdown. It just "happens" and the desktop locks up. However, I'm seeing other evidence of a severe desktop problem. More details when I've investigated further. Based on what I've seen so far, 11.0 is not ready for release. It's got to be the worst I've ever seen in a Linux distro. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I don't have any problems at shutdown here, however using konqueror is very likely to trigger a system hang.

I disagree, I have had zero problems, except for this, and a faster system after the upgrade. Maybe you don't remember that 10.3 also shipped with a serious reiserfs bug (https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=336669), which probably means that people should be switching away from reiserfs. Actually, I will do so soon. Regards -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had similar issues, removing power* rpms seems to have fixed my problem (so far, machine has stayed up fine running various GUI apps, including Thunderbird and Firefox for 24+ hours with no issues). -- --Moby They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -- Benjamin Franklin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well, I've just come across a beaut of a problem. Remote XDMCP does not work. When I try to connect to the 11.0 system, from either of two 10.3 systems, the desktop locks up solid. At this point, v11.0 is not ready for use, at least not here. I can try other than Reiser to see if that corrects the problem, but I'm not optimistic. -- Use OpenOffice.org http://www.openoffice.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi James, Every time I run Thunderbird the damn thing locks up tighter than a drum right away when I fetch mail through an ssh tunnel and randomly throughout the day. Used to work pretty good in 10.3. Not using KDE4 but KDE3. I think I'll wait for a more stable release and go back to 10.3 on my Compaq R3000 presario. Had zero issues with 10.3.
