You should be able to use this monitor with Linux by knowing what it's max resolution is. Using Mac monitors with PC based OS's is much easier then using PC monitors on Macs... because Macs expect that if you change the resolution the monitor will just do it. There is no grace period so one can change ones mind about accepting the res change. To answer the question about "proprietary" buses and what not. Macs haven't been this way since at least 1997 when the blue and white towers came out. They are all PCI, use the same memory as x86 boxes..etc..etc. Also, my 3 year old Radeon 7500 that I paid $50 for 3 years ago has a DVI connector on it that works just fine with DVI flat panels.. mac or PC.
