Nope! Install went ok, or so it seemed. But it reverts to Mesa for dri. glxinfo | grep render direct rendering: No GLX_ATI_pixel_format_float, GLX_ATI_render_texture OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect I'll check the logs. The xorg conf looks ok, glx and dri are in the modules section and the driver section does indeed have fglrx as well. One thing that I note is that the rpm generated refers to 7.1 if I'm reading it right. fglrx_7_1_0_SUSE102-8.32.5-1.i386.rpm I'll post if I find out anything relevant. Ok, crtl-alt-F10 reveal that the option kernel param "agplock" (agplock=0) throws an error. I commented out that line and re-init (from login screen with crtl-alt-backspace) and I rechecked output in crtl-alt-F10 and it doesn't complain about the error for agplock and new entries reveal it "found" the agp bus and sets to x8 (2 enteries for both outputs), as well as mem stats. Curtis, sorry I didn't get back at you earlier. I got stuck in configuring my ati card too ;).
From what I can see you managed to get the driver up & running without any errors! If you don't mind I'd like to add the "disable aiglx" switch to my arsenal of tips & tricks :)
The problems still remains however in that I still have no hardware 3D and GL is still painfully slow. What's confounding me is that Xorg's log states the direct rendering is enabled but then throws this line near the end: (II) GLX: Initialized MESA-PROXY GL provider for screen 0 and glxinfo | grep render as follows: direct rendering: No GLX_ATI_pixel_format_float, GLX_ATI_render_texture OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect and hence the fallback to software. Where's the problem. Something living in ram (doesn't appear to be)? A temp file that needs clearing? Something in /etc/ati (I now have 5 inst_path_default.backup files)? Or, the fglrxrc in /etc/ati? the fbmodes files, the atievnetsd (unlikely), xgl-fglrx-setup.sh (also unlikely- but maybe). I can't find anything yet that would explain the software fallback. TIA, Curtis. - -- Spammers Beware: Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again! Like the song say: "Everything's 'Zen'... Sounds like /usr/lib/libGL.so.* is still from Mesa, and not from the fglrx driver... They are no longer compatible (they were some time in the past). This is only a rough guess, though.
It appears to be related to AIGLS error (dlsym for_driCreateNewScreen...) with undefined symbols (logic vs syntax?). Hence fall back to Mesa software rendering. If needed I can paste the whole Xorg.0.log or attach as text file.
Doubtfull. The check should only disable AIGLX, not direct rendering.

Hi.
But the ATI driver page says that the drivers are for
xorg <= 7.1. It seems to me like we are running 7.2?

Didn't bother to read the release notes where the real information is buried? Fooled me too. That's where they finally list xorg 7.2rc2>openSUSE 10.2 as being supported under New Features. They worked fine when we tested them. So they *do* work - at least on
some chips ;)

Odd, the ATI webpage still reported only xorg 7.1 support http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux64/linux64-firegl.html -- _____________________________________ John Andersen

The i386 version works perfectly on my laptop but the X86_64 version
just gives a black screen on my desktop.

What now? Working or non-working?
Suspend with fglrx is highly fluctuating to my exsperience. It works
if you're lucky.

The release notes page is not up yet. The following is from their RSS feed.
NEW FEATURES: (1) Xorg 7.2 RC2/openSUSE 10.2 Support (2) ATI Radeon X1650 Support
Unfortunately, since this driver does not support R200 based cards, I cannot use it. I use the ATI driver on my SUSE 10.1 because of the TV-Out. I posted this comment on the phoronix drivers: http://www.phoronix.net/forums/showthread.php?t=518 I am justing posting it here in case anyone is in the same situation.
