Promise Controller (SX4000) drivers won't install...
OK, I have the FastTrak SX4000 controller and am having a bit of difficulty. I cannot seem to get the drivers to install. Granted they are 8.x drivers and I am trying to install 9.1 Pro. I followed the install instructions for a new install and SuSE said there were no drivers found. I setup a default instance of SuSE to try to add the driver as per the instructions, but insmod can't find FastTrak. I am not sure where to go from here. I tried contacting Promise previously on another matter, but I was ignored. So, any suggestion, other than getting a new card? ;) -- Jeff Dierking jeff@lordjester.com ------------------------ GPG/PGP KeyID 0x5F355DB4 Retrieve pgp-public-keys@pgp.mit.edu?subject=get%200x5F355DB4 ------------------------ "If I had thought about it, I wouldn't have done the experiment. So you are trying to install a 2.4 kernel driver into a 2.6 kernel? SuSE 8.x used the 2.4.x kernel line and by default 9.1 is using the 2.6.x kernel line. There are some major differences in them. I don't know if they would totally kill the driver, but I know that drivers took a bit of a beating in getting the new kernel "into production". -- Kelly L. Fulks Home Account near Huntsville, AL

I am attempting to, as that is all there is. Maybe I will make a 9.0 server for now. Hopefully that will work. Nope, nothing on Google what-so-ever other than the 8.x drivers that are listed on Promise's site. -- Jeff Dierking jeff@lordjester.com ------------------------ GPG/PGP KeyID 0x5F355DB4 Retrieve pgp-public-keys@pgp.mit.edu?subject=get%200x5F355DB4 ------------------------ Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular.

Then you have no choice, make a support call to their 800 number and tell them to catchup with Suse or ask for the source code so the community can handle the problem. Once the *nix community fixes the driver Promise can host it. Such things should be open source anyway.
