leap 15.3 - cups web-interface hanging up ?
I have just upgraded our printserver to Leap 15.3 and the cups web interface appears to hang up, often taking 20-30 seconds to load. At start-up, I see a couple of error messages in the log, but I think they're unrelated: E [31/May/2022:15:55:09 +0200] [CGI] cups-brf must be called as root E [31/May/2022:15:55:09 +0200] [cups-deviced] PID 11775 (cups-brf) stopped with status 1! Is it related to whatever browser you're using? You didn't say which...

I virtually only use Firefox. The main point is, before the upgrade it worked fine, no hang-ups, no delays. That was of course a much older cups version, 1.5.4 vs 2.2.7 (in Leap 15.3). I was mostly interested to hear if anyone had experienced anything similar. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.3°C)

Yes, but I've noticed a lot of browser pages have got slower over time. Presumably people have recoded pages using some newer 'improved' scripts that don't run as efficiently in my browser. Also Firefox. :P I was just wondering if that kind of thing might explain your difficulty.

Hmm, I have a feeling that what cups serves is pretty simple stuff. It is a little more polished in the newer version though. Just now it got hung up again, just going from the Jobs to the Printers tab. Then another hang-up going to Administration. Judging by Firefox, it is waiting (spinning wheel) for a reply from the cups server. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.0°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland.

It's a DNS issue, doing reverse ipv6 lookups is taking too long. For the upgrade, I "commandeered" an unused xen DomU and upgraded that to 15.3, then I moved the printserver over. The old printserver did not use ipv6 for DNS lookups. Sorry about the noise. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (17.1°C)

Hehe, they are all active, cups, cups.socket, cups.path. Printing works too, and the web interface works, except with these lengthy hang-ups. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (16.9°C)
