Hi. After a successful upgrade from 9.2 to 9.3, I've lost the nice kdm login screen with avatars of the users on it. Yast sysconfig editor still shows kdm as the login manager but the KDE control center has no effect upon it. All I have is a 2 line username and password form against the SuSE splash screen. Any ideas how to get back? Cheers, Steve.

Thanks to all. In the end it was a simple correction: edit /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc Change the line: UseTheme=true to UseTheme=false Thanks to all and especially Anders who replied to the other thread. Steve.

Sounds like you got switched from kdm to gdm as login manager. In Mandrake 2005 this apparent switch behavior is simulated when kdmrc is switched from "usetheme=no" to "usetheme=yes", but I don't know if 9.3 is cursed with this problem too. I haven't installed 9.3 yet. -- "Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." John 1:3 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Apparently SuSE did the same as Mandriva, but in different fashion. The fix is at http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/04/wessels_kdm93.html -- "Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." John 1:3 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. I had the same problem. This worked on one machine... http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/04/wessels_kdm93.html On another machine the above did not work. If not on yours, this worked for me. http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2005-May/1131.html Follow the thread. -- Jim Flanagan linuxjim at jjfiii.co
