[opensuse] Help Diagnosing USB Issue
On my mother's system, she's having an issue with USB. As far as I know, all USB ports worked fine under 9.3 (which she ran until a few months ago). Having upgraded her system to 10.2, she noticed an issue with USB items. Her mouse and Keyboard are PS/2, so they never did use USB. She has two usb ports in front and a USB printer along with one other port in back. The USB printer works fine - it is an HP Photosmart 8050. In an attempt to figure how to load a SD card using her USB card reader, I loaded usbview. However, that gave me an error: "Can not open the file /proc/bus/usb/devices Verify that you have USB compiled into your kernel, have the USB core modules loaded, and have the usbdevfs filesystem mounted." She's running kernel Linux 2.6.18.8-0.3-default i686 and has libusb 0.1.12-27, usbutils 0.72-20 and usbview 1.0.880 loaded. I found this one item - in Italian - regarding opensuse and USB. http://www.suseitalia.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=12616&forum=3 http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://www.suseitalia.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php%3Ftopic_id%3D12616%26forum%3D3&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=2&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dcan%2Bnot%2Bopen%2Bfile%2B/proc/bus/usb/devices%2B%2Bopensuse%2Bverify%2Byou%2Bhave%2BUSB%2Bcompiled%2Binto%2Byour%2Bkernel,%2Bhave%2Bthe%2BUSB%2Bcore%2Bmodules%2Bloaded,%2Band%2Bhave%2Bthe%2Busbdevfs%2Bfilesystem%2Bmounted.%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26hs%3DSrh%26sa%3DG Thanks! Oh, she can charge her USB palm pilot (zire 72) by usb and load pictures from her camera just fine. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
