I have a Maestro2E sound card, driven by the es1968 module of ALSA. Is there any way to enable the onboard synth of this card, or otherwise configure a software synth module, so that I can play midi files on it? (I *do not* mean enabling the MPU-401 compatibility feature - this sound card does not have any external midi wires, I would have to use a separate midi card for connecting to an external midi synth.) !++ ! Ok here is a VERY Odd problem. I went out today and got myself a new Video Card. Came home, and backed up my old /etc/X11/XF86Config file and set-up everything with SaX2. Now I made sure to set the Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" and started back up, and the went to use my wheel... It didnt work Here is a snippet of the InputDevice Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "InputFashion" "Mouse" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection I tried even running imwheel when I first got into X and that didnt do it either. Ok Figured something was different, and tried using the old mouse config from before... Identifier "Mouse1" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Option "Buttons" "3" Tried that, did nothing, tried running imwheel and did nothing... Now I know it worked before all of this, and I Know it worked with the last InputDevice section I used with out running imwheel. Please tell me I am not losing my mind and forgot to do some simple little thing! Robert K Davies

Have you tried with the Device set to "/dev/pointer0". That is what I have for my USB mouse, and it works here. My serial mouse is /dev/pointer1, and I can let the 2 mice fight over where the pointer should go. ;-) Regards Ole
I tried /dev/pointer0 in there as well and nothing, I have no clue what went wrong on the mouse, and it is driving me practically insane!!! If ANYONE has any insight on what my problem may be, I would greatly appreciate it... For more info, I am running X Server 4.0.2 on a general ps2 3 button wheel mouse. Thanks in advance. ~Robert Kris Davies Ole Kofoed Hansen wrote:

Hi, I don't pretend to understand your problem, but in case it helps, here is my working config : Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Device" "/dev/pointer0" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on" Option "Emulate3Timeout" "50" Option "Name" "AutoDetected" Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2" Option "Vendor" "AutoDetected" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Gave that a run and still no luck... Hrm... I have even tried changing the imps/2 that SaX2 added in to IMPS/2 with 0 luck :o( This all started when I installed my new Matrox G450, is there anything with the GLX drivers that can mess up the wheel mouse maybe? I am at a loss, and I cant even remember how I got by with out the wheel before! Ben, have you had any experience with the Wheel mice just dying after changing video cards out? I mean I have gone so far as to going to the latest imwheel, running xev to see if the wheel is even being recognized by X and it dont even show, all 3 other buttons work fine, but nothing for the wheel. I have even gone so far as to open my old XF86Config file, copy the whole mouse section and pasting it into the new Config file with no luck. If I remember correctly (This is the downfall for never documenting what I do the first few times of getting something to work), I popped on the mouse, changed the XF86Config file to IMPS/2 ZAxisMapping to 4 5 and Buttons 3 and went in to X (Gnome/Enlightenment mix) and it worked, no need for imwheel at all. But trying it with IM wheel on or Off does no good. and my poor desk has a perminant print of my forehead the last 2 days! :( It is not much help I fear, but FWIW I am using a G400 under Xfree 4.0.2 with the latest Matrox 400/450 drivers and the glx stuff. I have SuSE 7.0 btw. I just thought the information it might help in the process of elimination. Geoff _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? In the sdb it says IMPS2, that's what works for me: SuSE 7.1, XFree86 4.0.2, G400 DH + Xinerama, 2 different screen sizes, Logitech Cordless Wheel on Intellimouse protocol, imwheel added at the bottom of .xinitrc. Don't forget the test screen in SaX2, try using the wheel on the info window. Saves time.

If you turned the 3D fancy stuff on, I'd try switching it off and see.

Did you have a look at your .xresource, .xdefaults, .xinitrc and the like? I managed to mess that bunch up by accidentaly running the wrong users .xinitrc :0/, and got rather interesting results all over the place, i.e. they matter. HTH, Gudmund
