Yeah guys i hear yah all and now that i'm at work i'm asking one last question with regards to this topic. can one of you send me the installation instructions on installing this modem. i'm asking because i can print it all here at work and then carry it home.

Do you not have the handbook? People rarely respond on this list with 'rtfm', but you might make a little more effort... That said, external modems are pretty much plug in and go. I would try kppp first. The only trouble you might run into is to make sure your /etc/resolv.conf has the IP address of your ISP, otherwise you'll connect, but won't be able to browse, etc.. You can easily do this in YaST. In fact it's best to do it in YaST, as seasoned SuSE users all know, YaST has a nasty habit of overwriting 'hand-made' changes! k.
