Re: [SLE] Windowmaker, KDE or something else?
BlackBox is the way to go !! easiest one to use, easy on recources and least confusing as well. I wouldn't dare use anything else when it really counts. Just screwing around, then it's Gnome. Lee On Monday 16 September 2002 15:10, Keith Winston wrote:

Hello SuSE folkz, In our eng.dept. we're looking to standardize on a single uniform Linux graphical environment. Could somebody please give me an advise what is more convenient to use with less system resources consumption?
KDE is a very good environment but it uses a lot of memory and processor power. Windowmaker less resource consuming, has a nice interface, but we couldn't make its sound server working. CDE is severely outdated.
What else we can take into consideration? We don't need a very generic graphical environment 'cause most of our engineers came from Winblows environment.
I really like Icewm. It is on the SuSE CDs. Very fast, very low resources, very stable, no extra frills like in KDE or GNOME. Of course, many people like the frills.
Icewm is fully GNOME compliant but can run KDE apps as well, although the startup of KDE apps is slower than in KDE.

And BTW you will get as many different answers here as if you had asked what flavor of ice-cream is the best. BTW, strawberry flavor is the best. I like Edy's Homemade. Salman
