Hi Guys I have a question for the list which I'm hoping one of you desktop gurus may be able to help me with. Here is my system info: nix:~ # uname -a Linux nix 2.4.19-4GB #1 Thu Nov 14 09:16:07 UTC 2002 i686 unknown nix:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release SuSE Linux 8.1 (i386) VERSION = 8.1 Now, I am happy to say that SuSE 8.1 now supports my Pentax camera (finally). When I plug it into USB the following happens: Nov 20 13:15:07 nix kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 3 Nov 20 13:15:07 nix kernel: usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0xa17/0x4) is not claimed by any active driver. This doen't seem to be the optimal way to do it, so maybe one of you can answer... TIA -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc

FWIW, I use gtkam (supplied with SuSE 8.1) to access my digital camera (an Olympus). This removes any need to poke around with these things - plug the camera in, run gtkam and there you go! I've never needed explicitly to unmount it - hotplug seems to take care of that (I suspect that you are manually unmounting the camera? You don't need to AIUI...). The only thing I had to do was to copy one of the supplied scripts (as described in the manual) to allow access to the device to users (script sets the permissions for the newly plugged device each time). Heartily recommended :-) John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Knossos: escape the ever-changing labyrinth before the Minotaur catches you!

That is all normal messages. You don't need to do anything, unless you want to remove usb support. I use my usb only for a camera, so I don't bother to even start usb unless I want to connect the camera for downloading. My procedure? rchotplug start plug in the camera and wait for the beep to tell me it's found by usb mount the camera and download umount the camera unplug the camera rchotplug stop It could all be done in a bash script if you wanted to automate it. Starting and stopping hotplug loads and unloads the usb modules. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation
