The scenario: Fresh SUSE 10 installation from Eval-DVD-i386 followed by an immediate YOU update. I would like to set up KDM's own login screen. For this I change the DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME option in the /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager file like this: DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME="" using YaST -> /etc/sysconfig editor. But the login screen remains the default SUSE screen, does not change to the traditional kdm login screen. What else should I check to fix this? hi, try to remove kdm and install it again ? [if anything goes wrong with kdm: this procedure works on debian, not sure about Suse.] and theres also another file named 'startkde', you can 'examine' this file too. regards, bye.

In kdmrc you need UseTheme=No. This is not unique to SuSE. Every distro maker seems to want to theme away KDM. -- "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Psalm 33:12 NIV Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 Felix Miata *** http://mrmazda.no-ip.com/auth/

Is it really "No" or should it be "false"? In my /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc there are no "Yes" or "No" parameter values (of any alphabetic case), only "true" and "false". While you're at it, what's the relationship between "/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc" and "/etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.SuSEconfig"?

The second is generated when /sbin/SuSEconfig determines that you have edited /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc manually. If you find it necessary to hand edit files that SuSEconfig maintains, you should remove the /var/adm/SuSEconfig/md5/... checksum. It will be regenerated when SuSEconfig is next ran and the questioned file will *not* be generated. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

Setting UseTheme=false fixed the problem. Thanks! IG ________________________________________________________________________ Halld és lásd a 20. századot! Cikkek és videók a század történelmi eseményeiről az [origo] Múltkor oldalán. http://mult-kor.hu/cikk.php?article=12020
