Help. i upgraded to the latest version of Galeon from the ULB repository and now Galeon won't load. When I click on the icon, I get the hour glass icon for about 5 seconds or so and then it quits without Galeon running. Any suggestions? Don Henson

Run galeon from the command line to see any additional errors. Let us know what you get. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998 (5.2)

If your using the Galeon from ulb then it's built against and requires the Mozilla from the ulb site. That would most likely be your issue. Try upgrading Mozilla to the pkgs from the ulb site. That worked but shouldn't APT have told me that? (Thanks for the assist, by the way.) Don Henson

Yep. It should have. It should have told you what it was installing and what it was holding back...etc..etc. It should have said that it couldn't install it. I've never seen apt upgrade something that didn't have all the dependencies satisfied. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===--- #147972 ---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org -- Why do we bother with a suicide watch when someone is on death row? It looks like you didn't install all of the required packages. Try reinstalling the packages needed for galeon. You can also try either removing or renameing the .galeon directory to see if it will run after that. Ken Schneider

Isn't that the whole purpose of APT, to make sure all the dependencies are satisfied? Don Henson

Yep. You shouldn't have been able to upgrade Galeon via apt if all the deps couldn't be satisfied. I've never been able to get it to do that. If you do an "apt-get -f install" it should correct any weird dependency issues. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===--- #147972 ---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org -- Why do we bother with a suicide watch when someone is on death row? This is my bad ;) I didn't explicitly specify the version of Mozilla for Galeon, I always forget that Mozilla doesn't change the file names of it's libraries (ie there's no .so.3 or .so.2, just .so) while introducing API/ABI breakage. When building against other thing, Autoreqprov is great, mental note to self, put an explicit Requires line in for Galeon & Epiphany. Galeon is extensibly a front end for Mozilla. The versions need to match (sort of). In otherwords, if you have moz 1.5 and the version of Galeon your using isn't compiled for that version it will fail. Check to see what version of Moz you have. I can also be that certain dependant packages aren't installed or mismatched. Outside of having all the dependencies met, missmatched Moz to Galeon versions is a likely culprit. HTH, Curtis.

You must be right. I used Synaptic to upgrad/install any package that had Mozilla anywhere in the listing. After that, I was able to open Galeon. Don Henson
