Re: [SLE] Upgrade Pricing 8.0 to 8.1
This isn't a terribly helpful answer, now is it ? Why did you even bother to waste the bandwidth on it ? The update version is only available direct from SuSE: http://store.suse.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?xid=40017&SP=10023&PN=1&V1=437746&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=0 It is essentially the same media as the full version, but comes without the books. I hope this will have been a little more informative. Bye for now, Stuart.

How do you get this upgrade price?

Actually Stuart, that is not true! Several places are carrying the update package this time around. Try Linux Central, if you want an alternative. I am thinking maybe Amazon.com is carrying the update as well. Of course, ordering from SuSE direct has it's benefits too, like a free chameleon geeko 9" beanbag! I got mine, now my collection is almost complete! Tux's and Geeko's all around, keeping me warm and safe! ;o) Patrick -- --- KMail v1.4.3 --- SuSE Linux Pro v8.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206

What free chameleon? I did not get one. Got a whole Penguin collection, not a geeko, nor a KDE Dragon in sight...Do have a Ximian monkey though. Must have run out of stock I'd imagine. Matt

In the absence of any info on where the original questioner was based, the answer was complete.

Since the questioner had already purchased 8.0, 8.1 would come from the same source, and personally I would expect them to have the upgrade version as well - as other people have replied. -- Lester Caine ----------------------------- L.S.Caine Electronic Services

Unless this is reference to something SuSE offered back around the 6.4/7.0 days. There was an offer where you bought a subscription version. You paid a slightly higher price for the first one you bought on subscription, and then got (I think 4) subsequent versions at a significantly lower price. It worked out to be a lot cheaper than buying individual versions. I bought this... and then got absolutely zero subscription versions because the distribution structure in Europe changed and I could no longer buy the subscription version direct from SuSE. I have never got an answer from SuSE via the sales and support email addresses about what I could do about this. I gave up on it as money lost. I just buy the Upgrade version from a local distributor. C.

I had a similar problem but was able to solve it... I'm french, and back to 7.2 there was a french SuSE firm. I subscribed for three versions and received 7.2 as the first one. Then the french firm collapsed and my subscription was lost. I didn't like it and send several emails asking for my money back or the guarantee that my subscription was taken care of by the german firm. No response for months, they just ignored my messages. Then a guy answered, said he was sorry and he was going to send me a check. Nothing came, he was always saying "OK, don't worry, I'm taking care of this" but three months later, still nothing. That guy was Patrick Flier, if I remember correctly. Untrustworthy guy. So I started again to send emails and emails, to all SuSE addresses I knew. After some months again I got an answer, from someone serious this time. This person explained to me I couldn't be paid back for accounting reasons, but he could have some SuSE boxes sent to me. Thus I received 8.1 as soon as it was released. So I missed 7.3 and 8.0 because it took almost 9 months to get an answer from SuSE, but I have 8.1 and they will send me 8.2, since I subscribed for three versions. If this experience can help some people to get what they paid for... I insisted a lot, sent the same email almost every day to six or seven emails at SuSE for several months.
