I now find when I start X-Windows that I can only start CTWM which is the emergency WM under SuSE 6.4. I've run YaST a few times and it shows that XFCE is the default WM. How do I get out of this ? I haven't hacked WM configuration files before and I've no idea what to do.

Hi Richard, use yast. ;-) Try Systemadministration login confguration graphical kdm/xdm and shutdown features in case of kdm

From The main menue select

Config SuSEWM (underneath login configuration) choose the system default WM elect the other choices is you like and you should be done.
