[opensuse] Using Yast with Accessibility support apps such as Orca in Gnome.
Hello, This is aimed at any SuSE developers on the list that may have some input into the development of Yast either directly or indirectly. Firstly, let me introduce my self. I am a blind user of SuSE 10.2. I use an application that is now included in Gnome called Orca to read the screen using Synthesized speech. This gives me access to the majority of applications written for the Gnome desktop however as KDE is not QT based and Yast is written for this window manager I can not access the graphical version using Orca. Sorry. My description is probably not very clear. See a paragraph sent to me by one of the main developers in the AT-SPI accessibility field below. In short, it sounds like a reasonable work around can be found to this issue and the Orca developers are willing to work with the SuSE developers on this but their not sure who to talk to to get the ball roling. Paragraph extract: "I understand the challenge with Novell and Yast. Did your previous conversations include looking at a bridge between the Qt accessibility work at AT-SPI (or now more specifically the new Python layer developed for Accerciser)? That seems to me to be the most fruitful path forward, involving the smallest amount of engineering work. I know Willie is interested in exploring that path. If you have names of folks at Novell..." Willy is the product lead on the Orca team. As always, any pointers or suggestions welcome. Hello,
This is aimed at any SuSE developers on the list that may have some input into the development of Yast either directly or indirectly.
This is probably better suited to the yast-devel@opensuse.org list.

There is a yast2-gtk, which will be the default in gnome in 10.3, I don't know enough about Orca to know whether this will be useful. _ Benjamin Weber -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
