[opensuse] python3-idle in oS v11.1
I have installed Python3 in v11.1, and it runs. I have tried to install (from YaST) the corresponding default IDE, which is a separate package called python3-idle, which YaST describes as the IDE. Software manager shows that python3-idle is installed. A search for <python3-idle> discovers only one hit, a directory at: /usr/share/doc/packages/python3-idle containing only some text files. Where is the real IDE hiding? -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

rpm -ql python3-idle |grep bin
'Tain't so.
rpm -ql python3-idle |grep bin /usr/bin/idle /usr/lib64/python3.0/idlelib/keybindingDialog.py /usr/lib64/python3.0/idlelib/keybindingDialog.pyc /usr/lib64/python3.0/idlelib/keybindingDialog.pyo
So python3-idle is absent; idle is something entirely different. But I would have found python3-idle if it were present, when I searched for python* with find starting from /. The last three hits seem to be libraries for the IDE, but I don't see anything anywhere that looks like an executable to use them. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

No it isn't. The command you ran gave you a listing of all the files in the package python3-idle with the string "bin" in the name. Of those, one is an executable, and it is called "idle"! Like it or not, "idle" is python3-idle Programs aren't always called exactly the same as the package they're in Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Perhaps you should do some of your own research. You may find it difficult to believe, but I had been doing that for 8 to 10 hours a day for the past three days, with time off for necessary chores and functions. Nowhere have I found python(3)-idle referred to by any other name but that, with obvious variants. I do not get psychic messages, so I am forced to rely on the good will of authors of documentation and publications for information -- and, of course, on the many participants in this and other forums whose object is to help, rather than to preach.

You are working too hard at this, Patrick. You need a hobby. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
