Download it from java.com and run the installer. Apparently that's the only way Oracle permits it to be distributed now.
There should be a howto for dumbs. Like links, what variables to change on the user system and how exactly, files to edit if any, things to run (updatealernatives perhaps?), etc.
Things like how to have both java versions installed and run only certain things with sun's java...
If someone points me to a specific OS Wiki page, I can add information for 11.4. That would be the use case that one had Oracle Java from 11.4 installed, and want to upgrade to a new version for security reasons. With a very high probability it would also cover the use case of OpenJDK usage, but I haven't verified that. (I use Java 6, and OpenJDK causes me too much problems in that version.) I can also add information about using multiple Java versions. This is mostly about environment variables. I haven't done it on 12.1, so I can't tell anything about OpenJDK vs. Oracle Java. I don't know what changed there in terms of update-alternatives and I don't know the package names. Somebody else would need to add that information. Also, my howto would involve commands in a shell. Somebody else would have to supply the information what are equivalent actions in a graphical environment. Yes, that's probably the right one; I'll do it. Joachim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
