Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me about kernel patches the ? is if i have say linux-2.4.15.tar.gz and unpack it and i notice that there was two patches make like linux-2.4.16-pre1.gz linux-2.4.16-pre2.gz do i need to just apply the linux-2.4.16-pre2.gz or do i need to still do both as my thinking is that in the pre2 one would be the pre1 patches thanks for any info BOB
If your wanting to go to 2.4.16 then I would suggest downloading these files from this directory: ftp.suse.com: /pub/people/mantel/next/RPM The files are: k_deflt-2.4.16-5.i386.rpm kernel-source-2.4.16.SuSE-5.i386.rpm They were posted today I believe. I've got them installed and they seem to work pretty well :) * Bob B (n1uan@bridgenettn.com) [011130 16:37]: ->Hi ->I was wondering if someone could tell me about kernel patches ->the ? is ->if i have say linux-2.4.15.tar.gz and unpack it and i notice ->that there was two patches make like ->linux-2.4.16-pre1.gz ->linux-2.4.16-pre2.gz ->do i need to just apply the linux-2.4.16-pre2.gz or do i need to ->still do both as my thinking is that in the pre2 one would be the pre1 ->patches thanks for any info -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal" -AE

The -5 in the rpm is the build of said rpm..they are quite different. The -5 just means this was the 5th RPM that he build..or so that's what I have always been told as far as versioning numbers.
uname -a
Linux zeus 2.4.16-4GB #1 Fri Nov 30 09:15:45 GMT 2001 i686 unknown
rpm -q k_deflt
k_deflt-2.4.16-5 Hope that clears it up for you. -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- Ben Rosenberg mailto:ben@whack.org -----=====-----=====-----=====-----=====----- "Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal" -AE
