Hi,
I am running UnitedLinux (SLES/SLSS) on a number of servers, and would
like to make updating them easy.
I have an ftp server with the packages I use (a mix of SuSE packages,
patched SuSE packages and my own packages). On this ftp server I have
content, media.1, setup, etc. needed for YaST to recognize it as a
package repository. I use this to create auto-install CDs as well. That
works fine.
Whenever there is an update, I fetch it and regenerate the description
files.
Now on to the problem; Whenever I need to update a server, I need to
start YaST (ncurses), and do the following: (on each server!)
- Software -> Change source of installation
- Remove the ftp "Software Source Media"
- Add it again to get an updated package list
- Software -> System Update
- Uncheck "Create backup" [Next]
- Choose "Update installed packages only." [Next]
- Accept the list [Next]
- Accept the updates [Yes]
... wait ...
- [Finish]
As far as I know, YaST Online Update can only install ".patch.rpm"s, not
newer versions of updated rpms. Is that correct?
Is there any way to do this without using the ncurses interface?
Why is there both "YaST Online Update" and "System Update" (which does
updates via ftp just fine)?
Best regards,
Morten
