[SuSE Linux] Sound Card
HI All; I plan on getting a sound card just to play with. I don't want to put any real money into it. Sooooo, looking at the prices I find one listed as "SB16 compatible PNP" for 25 DM (ca 15$). ORRRR next in price are "Creative SB 16 ISA", "Creative SB 64 PCI", "TerraTec 128i", or "Diamond Sonicimpact S90" all at 49 DM each (ca 30$). I don't want to spend anymore than that on a card. Not knowing a durn thing about them, will one of them work with Linux? Also if I get the more costly card which should I get? My system is a 486/33 all EIDE (no SCSI at all) it was built in 1992. I have the "Creative SB 16 ISA" and it works fine on my SuSE 5.3 system. I had an SB32 at work and have just got a new machine there with a Yamaha 64 onboard card. Unless you want to play midi files you should notice little or no difference between a 16, 32 and 64 sound card. Given your requirements I would be inclined to go for the cheaper SB compatible. -- Steve Crane stevec@netlane.com <A HREF="http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A">http://www.datapro.co.za/~stevec</A> -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A> and the archive at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A>
