Like many readers of this newsgroup, I have several older versions of SuSE lining my bookcase stretching back to 6.0. Many of these have applications which are no longer included in SuSE distributions. These include SampLin-a data collection program, Rstatist-which was a great statistical rendering application, the IBM Open Visualization Data Explorer and others.... Can I use the current version of Yast to install these programs from my old distro cds? Thanks.

I would guess not, but it might still be possible to install them. Just find the rpm file on the CDs and try rpm -ivh filename.rpm. You may need to tell rpm to skip the dependency check. Regards Ole

I older versions de Suse, (for example 6.4) you can put a CD from 7.0, or 6.2 and list the programs with yast and install them, but now is not possible (bad bad) Before, you can see the program description, and files listen inside yast, now is not possible. Any know how?

Thanks.
If you are using 8.1 you can use konqueror to navigate to the rpm and install it from konqueror. It works very well. Jethro
