[*] Generic PCI IDE chipset support [*] Generic PCI bus-master DMA support [*] Use DMA by default when available [*] PROMISE PDC20246/PDC20262 support
The problem is the last option does not appear in my 6.3, kernel 2.2.13 configuration, either through 'make menuconfig' or 'make xconfig'. Do I need to get a later copy of the distro or did I do something wrong when I installed the source.
Are you *sure* that your kernel has Experimental and/or Incomplete Drivers turned *on*? -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 x136 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
Looks like I need completely new source... the only drive options under
'other IDE chipset support' are:
Generic
ALI
DTC
HOLTEC
QDI
UMC
PROMISE DC4030 (doesn't fix the problem)
I have also downloaded the 2.2.14 source from kernel.org and when I run
'make menuconfig' on it there is no support there either. The only kernels
that do seem to offer it are the 2.3.X kernels, but then everything else
goes to hell because you have to scrap everything you know about ipchains
and all the good examples available on the net, for something called
iptables that doesn't yet completely replace ipchains, and many of the
config options for most of the examples I have seen are no longer available.

Ok. Your right, i was wrong. It is indeed not included in the 2.2.14 kernel. It doesn't even seem to be in the pre-2.2.15. I've been snooping around a bit, and found a URL of the person working on the driver. You'll find the patches ther. http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/ Greets, Erland. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Ummm... I'm using 2.2.14 with the Promise UDMA right now... just needed a couple of fields in my append stmt in lilo.conf. I've pondered the HOWTO mentioned above but the link to Hedriks work on the
ide drivers has patches for 2.0.38pre1, 2.2.15-15, and 2.3.99-pre3. It
wasn't obvious which one was the correct one to apply to the 2.2.13 or
2.2.14 kernel source.

Try this link and use the latest patch (24 jan. 2000 I think): http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/hedrick/old/ -- Bob F EMail FBob@wt.net A Truly Wise Man Never Plays Leapfrog With A Unicorn... -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
This is really a rant. Is there an update to the default web setup that comes with 6.3. I'm talking about the help pages at http://localhost/ on a default setup. Clicking on the link "SuSE Support" take me to the local help page. Then the first two links in the suppor section failed to work. Really, most links don't work. The web server is set not to follow symbolic links, but some of the web pages are symbolic links, pages are hard coded with HREFs of "http://localhost" and so on. Is this fixed in 6.4? Yes, the help system has been reworked quite heavily.
