[opensuse] Can I run Debian with an openSUSE kernel+initrd?
I have a need to boot Debian from iSCSI root, which doesn't appear to be well supported. There is a project init4boot, but this seems to be quite old. As openSUSE supports iSCSI quite well, it appeared to me that I could probably boot a system with an openSUSE kernel and initrd, and have a Debian root ? I'll be testing this tomorrow anyway, so this is more of sanity check - to see if anyone's got an opniion or advice to share. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (20.0°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'd say it should be possible, if iSCSI support will be present in initrd. I haven't tried anythin evil with dracut based initrd, but if you have present shell, chroot, pivot_root, iscsi tools and kernel modules, you could do it at least manually.

Good luck with that. S_W

It will probably work, it goes without saying that this is not a supported usage scenario. ;-) -- Cristian "I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hehe, no I guess it is a little out of scope :-) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (14.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Why not? It's one of the most important use cases that certain openSUSE versions or other distros run with all kind of different kernels as workers on OBS. cu, Rudi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
