The standard (6.2) scripts that should start my firewall are failing because there is no such file as /proc/net/ipfw_chains, but I'm convinced that firewalling is compiled in the kernel. Is it simply looking for ipfw_chains? If so, then thats incorrect as it should be ip_fwchains. Need a bit more info I suppose to narrow this down, but you may want to look at around line 88 in the /sbin/init.d/firewall routine, which is where the check is being made for the ip_fwchains file. The other thing to check is that ip_forward has the correct entry of 1 within the file rather then 0 as this will report that firewall is not correctly installed on the system. Anyway, let me know. -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - New homepage coming soon SuSE Linux v6.2+ - Kernel 2.2.13 "Who cares if it doesn't do anything? Hi Col, did you check the variables in rc.config?? FW_START="yes" in particular... I had a quick look through the scripts, but couldn't find an "expected" "echo N >some/where/in/proc" command. (I can start the firewall) So check rc.config and try again. Yes Juergen thank you. But at the risk of being horribly embarrassed... do I need to be physically connected to a network at the time (this is a machine I'm setting up prior to being physically installed) ----- Original Message ----- From: Juergen Braukmann <juergen.braukmann@ruhr-west.de> To: SuSE Linux English <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Sunday, November 28, 1999 8:00 PM Subject: Re: [SLE] Firewall failing
