Off topic, ... how to create a pdf file?
I simple don't know where to ask, but it should work on the SuSE web server: Somebody should (hopefully many ;-) ) come to my website and order something. After he has paid via credit card, I would like to make a downloadable invoice in pdf format. The info for the invoice will come from different database tables, according to the purchase. It also includes the company logo and a chop or signature. I want to use pdf format, because it is independent from the users OS. Can anybody give me a hint where to start ??? This sounds like a job which 'groff' would do well.
Extract the data from your database, run it past an 'awk'
script to create a troff source file with the formatting
tags embedded, run 'groff' to produce a PostScript output
file, then run 'ps2pdf' to make the PDF file. All in one
batch script.
If that outline isn't enough to get you started, drop me
a line off-list and I can probably help you on your way.
Ted.

If you are in KDE2, you can print the file to a PDF file. If you've got a plaintext report output, you can use a2ps (ASCII to PostScript) to convert it to a PostScript file, then use ps2pdf to make a PDF from that. I do this on my machine to make mailing labels, because a2ps has a multiple- pages-per-sheet printing feature that's really cool. Ronald, If you want to do something really fancy then I suggest using python and reportlab to create your pdf files. Of course this is a fairly involved process, but depending on the size of your businesss it might be worth the investment. see www.reportlab.com for details If you need Jethro

I don't know if it is easy to use vs the other options of converting text to PDF, but it would keep it all within PHP. Greg Engel
