apt4rpm on SUSE 9.0
I installed apt4rpm on a fresh install of SUSE 9.0 and I ran into two small snags. The first is that when I try to apt-get the new gaim it say no because it cannot solve the necessary dependancy issues. I solved this by just installing gaim from source but I would like to run the RPM's because it makes upkeep a little bit easier. Second, I ran the command "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" to upgrade all of the RPMs on the system and when it finished X11 would not restart correctly. The only reason I am asking these questions is because I have been using redhat freshrpms.net apt-get and it has never had these kinds of problems. Is apt4rpm a beta deal, bad RPMs or what? Any opinions or experiences would be greatly apperciated in helping me better eveluated apt4rpm as a updating tool. -- Benjamin Arai Araisoft Corp. benjamin@araisoft.com Phone: (626) 390-8973

Thats because the base packages are not available yet for 9.0 in ftp. If you want use apt as only tool you must create the base repository from cd/dvd contents to your hard disk or somewhere in your lan. ain

What do you have in your sources.list? Some rpms through apt are made by suse, and some are made by susers, aka suse users like you and me. Apt by itself is merely a tool. You just have to be cautious what rpm's you let it add and remove. -- E.F.Maurer Using SuSE 9.0 Pro
