The mouse works fine in win95 so it isn't a hardware problem. This problem has me stumped. I redid the mouse configuration, stopped and started gpm, and the mouse started working again in both terminal mode and Xwindows (I know that xwindows doesn't use gpm), but then it froze on me again. Something doesn't seem stable. philsf@mail.com wrote:

My mouse was working in linux until sunday and then it has just stopped. When I try to use my mouse, linux freezes. Because of this I can't run xwindows. I don't have any IRQ problems, The mouse gets found at startup (dev/psaux gets loaded), so I can't figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?

Try using another mouse, to see if it's a hardware problem. Also you could try your mouse in another computer. Also note that the problem could be in the comm port. I friend of mine's computer had a strange problem: his SVGA card often malfunctioned and didn't let the system boot, not even let the BIOS part. His diagnostics: the card was "slipping" inside the slot, and he had to open the PC and reconect the card everytime it happened. Could something alike be happening to you? (hope not...)
