Now, if I walk into somewhere like RadioShack/Tandy/Source there are rows of laptops and PCs with these abominable keyboard. I point this out to the salescritters and they look perplexed. I show them the proper keyboard at the sales terminal and then the laptop keyboards and there is an "oh, right", but they don't understand why it is. Can they get laptops with proper keyboards? I ask. They don't know; they don't even know who to ask.
So I contacted Dell (Canada) and HP/Compaq (Canada) to ask this question and a year later still await a yes/no answer. Support redirects me to Marketing and Marketing is very good at blithering and trying to tell me why a keyboard that increases my error rate is good for me.
Note the reduced size left shift key and the accent key no respectable anglophone would ever want to use beside it. http://f.tqn.com/y/french/1/S/n/H/2/canadiankeyboard.jpg </rant>

<rant> Now that Goodwill (Ontario) has bankrupted its hard to find older, under powered, heavier but non the less "secure" laptops from the last century, for some value of "secure". Its not as if I need oodles of computing power, given I have my cell phone, which has more computing power in it than all of NASA at the time of the moon shots, but for basic email+pgp and https with a keyboard that allows speed typing in a way that the phone's on-screen keyboard and the dinky bluetooth keyboard don't permit, its wonderful. </rant>
A happy Leap Forward Sunday to you all :-)
