I don't think that's possible.

Not sure I understand. You mean you just want to copy the data from one ReiserFS partion to an ext3 formatted one? If so, take the volume offline and copy it. -- Microsoft Palladium: "Where the hell do you think YOU'RE going today?"

Well this is the hole story: I have in my home PC 4 IDE disks: hda --> 80GB (Windows XP 2 partitions 1 NTFS, 1 FAT32) hdb --> 10GB (SuSE 3 partitions 1 /boot ext2 , 1 / ReiserFS, 1 swap) hdc --> 2GB (raw partitions for Sybase) hdd --> 13GB (Removable) What i want to do is: Take 15GB from the second partition of hda with Partition magic and copy hdb to that partition. Remove from my PC hdb and hdc because i want to buy 1 CD-RW and 1 DVD ATAPI. I can't copy hdb with Norton Ghost because the program cannot resize ReiserFS partitions, only ext2/ext3 partitions. PS: There is a way to do that. To install Suse again. -- Best regards ******************************** Nick Katsamas e-Mail: nkat@forthnet.gr ********************************

There is a simpler way to do that. Do not use Norton Ghost! Once you have created a larger partition on hda, formatted it with the FS you like, you only have to "mv" anything to that partition. You can do that with the Suse Rescue System very easily. Praise

Basically not on the fly. However, yes with work. This is just a thought on how to do it. 1. Backup all files on the drive partition that is to be changed. Besure to get all links and permissions 2. Because the drive is already partitioned fdisk is not needed. 2a.Unmount "umount /dev/hd*#" (*=a,b,c, d or etc.) (#=partition number the drive. 3. cd to your /sbin partition and look for "ls mkf*" mkfs mkfs.ext2 mkfs.minix mkfs.reiserfs mkfs.bfs mkfs.jfs mkfs.msdos mkfs.xfs 4. Use mkfs.ext2 /dev/hd*# (*=a,b,c, d or etc.) (#=partition number) YOUR drive is now erased! 5. Have support for ext3 compiled into the kernel. 6. Edit /etc/fstab to reflect /ext3 Example: /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 2 Use "mount" to mount the new /device or reboot. 7. copy all of your files back to the drive There maybe problems with this (like broken links are file that didn't get copied. Like I said just a thought on the subject. If something is wrong or is missing let the list know. manpage fs(5), filesystems(5), proc(5), fsck(8), mkfs(8), mount(8) -- 73 de Donn Washburn __ " http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 a MSDOS Virus "Free Zone" OS Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org Info: http://www.austinlug.org

Hi all,
Did anyone knows how can i convert a ReiserFS partition to ext3?
The reason i want to do this is i want to transfer the linux partition to enother partition (bigger) with Norton ghost. I've converted all my partitions on my system to Reiserfs. As long as there is a place to save the data. I recently copied my 8.1 root partition from the second drive to the first. As previously mentioned, use SuSE's rescue disk. Once booted: mkdir for the source and the target partitions. mount the source and target partitions. Copy the data making sure that the permissions and ownership don't change. I used cp -a.:
