Thanx... Yes. I located this file and added an entry for my Samsung SyncMaster 240T. It's working, SaX2 detects my monitor, but entered modelines are not copied into the XF86config. So it's not possible to create a predefined setting for the resolution 1920x1200 without manually adjusting the XF86config.... And I don't want to do this!

Hi,
Does anybody know where I can get specific information about SaX2? I want to add a monitor to the database of SaX2 so it will be automatically recognised.
Regards,
Take a look at /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/api/data/cdb/Monitors
It has entries like this:
# # HP Model: D2843A M900 [NO DDC-ID JET] # HP:D2843A M900 { Vsync = 50-150 Hsync = 30-92 }

Harry, Three questions. 1- I have a SyncMaster, but not 240T, so I don't know whether you're right or not. Are you *positively* sure your monitor can handle 1920x1200? (I know mine can't go that high!) I only ask because recently another SuSEr fried his SyncMaster with wrong frequencies... 2- If (big IF) the monitor can handle the 1920x1200, then what's preventing you from entering that value when you click on Properties. And if you entered the value, and SaX2 accepted it, the modeline was created. 3- You say the modelines have not been copied into the XF86Config. Are you sure? Maybe (just *maybe*) you're looking in the wrong place. I know it happened to me... I was looking for XF86Config in the *body* of /etc, but SaX2 had put it in /etc/X11... Do a ' find *XF86Conf* ' and look for the date and time. A final point, which comes from my (*very* limited) experience: if SaX2 isn't giving you the result you expect, try SaX (without the '2', the old one). Don't ask me why, but I've had that experience of achieving with one what I couldn't with the other... (that goes also for YaST and YaST2...) Best of luck. gr (in /usually/ sunny, balmy Florida Gulf coast)

That XF86Config is for X version 3...
SaX2 had put it in /etc/X11... Do a ' find *XF86Conf* ' and look for the date
That one is for version 4... I don't see why both are present, it should only keep the relevant one... I had the same problem with making manual changed to the one in /etc
giving you the result you expect, try SaX (without the '2', the old one).
I haven't tried that before because I thought SaX only configured for version 3 of X... DoPo

Wait a second... isn't SaX used for X up to 3.x, but SaX2 is for version 4.x of the X server? Or, is that merely behavior caused by default settings in config files?? /kevin
