[S.u.S.E. Linux] 3Com Ethernet Card Problem
My setup is V5.2, and everything has installed OK, except the 3Com 3C509 card. The system has failed to pick it up. I recently spotted the suggestion of performing a direct scan using modprobe: modprobe 3c509 io=0x300,irq=10 The resulting message was: /lib/modules/2.0.33/net/3c509.o: symbol for parameter io not found This error message also appears on the bootup screen, and has appeared consistently from the initial install. I've checked the obvious - the system has a DOS partition, so I've booted from DOS and configured the card using the 3Com utilities, both before and after the install. It runs through the hardware tests OK. The card is attached to a Warp Server LAN, but obviously it hasn't been integrated software-wise into the network. I'm pretty certain that the hardware is not defective. Anyone have suggestions as to the next move. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Donald G7ENQ Euro Interconnect Signaling Systems (44) 01628 431063 Nortel plc. find out if the modules rpm is installed or not by: rpm -qa | less and look for the string modules. Most likely you are missing this rpm in your installation. Install the modules rpm from the distribution CD (i think it is cd1), although it should have been installed. modprobe 3c509 io=0x300,irq=10
The resulting message was:
If the command line shown above as used literally, then the problem is simply syntactical: as opposed to kernel options, modprobe requires blank space between parameters Vicco J.
