Picture this: System crashes, CPU board needs to be replaced, can't get original chip set. I read somewhere of a backup utility that will create a backup and that backup can be placed on a different computer with a different chip set and that different computer will be automatically configured to run the original system Does anyone have any information on this backup utility?

Been there done that.. Old MB still sitting on the shelf. You didn't mention if the HD crashed also. If it didn't, then plug the drive into the new board, and suse will find the new equipment.
